The Omicron Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, proudly located in Little Rock, Arkansas, stands as a beacon of brotherhood, service, and excellence. Established to provide an avenue for Omega men in Central Arkansas to live their creed and uplift humanity, the chapter continues to embody the Fraternity’s sacred principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.

Founded on the belief that Omega’s impact should extend deeper into the Central Arkansas community, Omicron Lambda Lambda was conceived on January 22, 2004, by a small but determined group of visionary brothers. This committed band of Omega men—Charles D. Thompson, Bruce Horton, Reggie Davis, John Roberts, James O. Williams, Kevin Bell, and Edward Sherrill—recognized a growing need for expanded service and brotherly engagement in the region.

Guided by the mentorship of Bro. Don Davis, then Ninth District Representative, the group embarked on the journey to establish a new chapter. After much prayer, planning, and perseverance, the brothers selected Allport, Arkansas, as the chapter’s official home—strategically positioned to extend Omega’s presence across Allport, North Little Rock, and Pulaski County.

From its inception, Omicron Lambda Lambda has become one of the fastest-growing graduate chapters in the state of Arkansas and a model of community engagement and leadership. The chapter’s outreach efforts include providing Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets to families in need, serving meals to the homeless at The Watershed, and hosting annual toy and bicycle giveaways for children in the community.

Since its founding, Omicron Lambda Lambda has awarded over $150,000 in scholarships to deserving high school graduates—investing in the next generation of scholars and leaders. The chapter has also remained steadfast in promoting wellness and health awareness through annual community health fairs, offering screenings for breast cancer, prostate cancer, HIV, cholesterol, and blood pressure, along with its signature Charles Drew Blood Drive.

Basileus

Greetings,

As the first Basileus initiated through Omicron Lambda Lambda, I am both deeply humbled and profoundly honored to serve this remarkable chapter of men who embody the very essence of Omega—Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift.

I am grateful to stand on the shoulders of the five distinguished Basilei who have led Omicron Lambda Lambda before me. Their vision, sacrifice, and steadfast leadership have paved a path of excellence that challenges each of us to press forward with the same dedication and purpose.

As we embark on this next chapter together, my vision for OLL is rooted in growth with purpose—a growth defined not by numbers, but by impact, influence, and integrity.
That vision is captured in the framework of R.I.M.S.:

  • Reinforce our commitment to the Fraternity’s Mandated Programs
  • Increase our District involvement and presence
  • Maximize Community Uplift through meaningful relationships and service
  • Strengthen our Brotherhood through unity, accountability, and love

True growth comes when we move beyond membership and embrace brotherhood—when we live as Men who uphold the standards and spirit of Omega in every sphere of life. As the timeless poem “Members Versus Men” reminds us, “ The value of our Fraternity is not in numbers, but in men, in real brotherhood.”

With the guidance of God, the wisdom of our past leaders, and the collective strength of this brotherhood, I look forward to serving, uplifting, and advancing the vision of Omicron Lambda Lambda with passion, humility, and purpose.

Fraternally,
Brother Derrick “QBall” Young

IN THE BEGINNING

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically black college.

On the evening of November 17, 1911, Omega Psi Phi was founded inside the Science Building (later renamed Thirkield Hall) at Howard University located in Washington, D.C. The founders were three undergraduates — Edgar Amos LoveOscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Ernest Everett Just.

From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, friendship is essential to the soul, the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto.

Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.

Ninth District

To truly know and appreciate the history of the Ninth District, you must first understand how districts in general were derived, that is, how and why they came into being? How did they fit into the internal organization of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.? What is the meaning of the term "District Representative?" The answers to these questions changed with time. They did not mean the same during the early days of the Fraternity as they mean today. From the founding of Omega throughout its first decade, there was no such thing as "Districts" or "District Representatives." The Grand Basileus had the total and personal responsibility of administering all facets of the Fraternity. A job that was becoming increasingly more difficult as the organization became larger and larger. However, this was to change during the second decade of the Fraternity's existence.
